Florida Attorney General Uthmeier suggests immigration detention center in the Everglades

“Alligator Alcatraz. We’re ready to go,” he said in a video posted on X.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier proposed opening a low cost detention center for immigrants with criminal records at an abandoned airport near the Everglades.

The facility, located at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport, could be operational within 30 to 60 days and hold more than 1,000 people, he said.

Uthmeier unveiled the proposal in a one-minute video posted to his personal X account and in an interview with Fox Business.

The facility requires minimal investment, Uthmeier said. The location spans 39 square miles and includes a 10,500-foot runway.

Sounds like a good place for Uthmeier, since he was recently found in contempt for ignoring a court order regarding illegal arrests of undocumented immigrants.
