Residents fighting planned large hog farm in western Indiana

LINDEN, Ind. (AP) — Some residents are organizing against plans for a nearly 9,000-head hog operation near a rural western Indiana town.

The proposal submitted to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management calls for two barns each holding 4,400 finishing swine on land about a mile from the Montgomery County town of Linden.

Nearby residents tell the (Crawfordsville) Journal Review that they're concerned about noise, odors and increased truck traffic on gravel roads from the proposed confined animal feeding operation. They are organizing a petition drive opposing the project in the area about 25 miles south of Lafayette.

Farmer Chris Hudson submitted the state permit request and says he is happy to discuss the concerns of neighbors if they contact him directly.

Environmental possible nightmares. If local Regs do not mitigate air quality or possible lagoon breakage, just crab both cheeks and hang on. Sounds like a WalMart supply contract thing.

With Climate Change, sighting a Pork Silo Operation anywhere causes all kinds of nasty problems because the EPA has thrown away the Rule book.
