(Detroit Free Press) A Royal Oak bookstore says they will close their doors on Friday, Jan. 30, in support of a general strike that protests U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

"ICE has no place in our communities, and we stand with the people of Minnesota and everywhere who are being targeted by this terror," Sidetrack Bookshop, located at 325 S Washington Ave., said in a post on Facebook.

The general strike, organized by Nationalshutdown.org, encourages participants not to go to work, school or shop on Jan. 30.

I have so many books that I don't buy them anymore, except for gifts, (I check them out from the library these days) but I will gladly find something there to purchase. I think it's important to patronize independent businesses that stand up for the right things.

There is a local independent bookstore near me. I go there once in a while anyway just to help keep them in business.
