San Antonio sees lowest early voter turnout for mayoral election in over a decade
SAN ANTONIO Whether it's the abundance of choices or Fiesta priorities, 2025's early voter turnout proved to be the lowest for a San Antonio mayoral election since 2013, when just 4.66% of registered voters got to the polls ahead of Election Day.
This year was a bit better than 2013. The Bexar County Elections Department reported a turnout of 5.89% during 2025's early voting window, including Tuesday's final-day tally of 20,631 voters, which accounted for nearly 30% of the total early votes cast.
Nearly 1.26 million Bexar County residents are registered to vote for the May 3 election, which is headlined by the packed contest to succeed Mayor Ron Nirenberg when he departs in June.
In all, 74,092 people cast a ballot during the early voting window, which lasted from April 22 through Tuesday at more than 40 locations throughout Bexar County. In 2023, when Nirenberg beat eight challengers to win a fourth and final term outright, nearly 107,000 residents cast a ballot earlyamounting to a 10.1% turnout.
