Maga's Very Bad Night In Texas

Texas Voters to Far-Right: Bless your heart, now pack it up.

https://www.lonestarleft.com/p/magas-very-bad-night-in-texas

It was a tough night for MAGA-aligned candidates in Texas. In the May 3, 2025, local elections, voters across the state decisively rejected far-right candidates, particularly in school board and city council races. From Tarrant County to Collin County, and from San Antonio to Dallas, communities chose leaders who prioritize public education, inclusivity, and pragmatic governance over culture wars and partisan agendas. This widespread shift signals a growing resistance to extremist politics at the local level.

A statewide rejection of extremism.
Last night, voters across Texas sent a message loud enough to rattle the far-right out of their echo chambers: we’re done with your culture wars, your book bans, and your crusade against public schools. Voters chose community over chaos, educators over agitators, and progress over extremism.

The local elections weren’t just a series of wins but a sweep. MAGA-backed candidates got absolutely trounced across the state. This was the result of deep organizing, years of work by local Democrats, and voters who are fed up with the far-right hijacking of school boards and city councils to push their agenda.

Texas isn’t turning blue overnight, but make no mistake: the MAGA movement had a very bad night, and the momentum is shifting.

Tarrant County.
The Republican Party poured money, endorsements, and out-of-state personalities into these Tarrant County races, and they got wiped. Every single candidate backed by Patriot Mobile, the far-right Christian nationalist group trying to take over school boards, lost. That’s losses in Mansfield ISD, Keller ISD, and Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. A clean sweep.

She only mentioned one Plano City Council race, but I’m thrilled about all four races. The Collin County GOP endorsed candidates in each one and they ALL lost! This is huge in such a red area!

I can remember watching this speech with my parents on their living room TV. My mother was in stitches.

I tried to find the full speech with better quality to no avail. It's really good listening none the less.

Rest in peace Governor.

Lily Adams helped her grandmother Ann Richards win Texas. Can she get Kamala Harris to the White House?

It’s possible that Lily Adams’ political baptism at a Baylor University homecoming parade is what most prepared the Democratic operative for the tone of the Trump era.

Dressed in a red, white and blue dress, she tried in earnest to charm the crowds from a ’57 Ford pickup truck. One angry parade-goer remained less than delighted and wanted her to know it. He marched up to her makeshift float, got in her face and gave her the middle finger.

It was 1990. And she was a 3-year-old.

They probably "studied to pass the test" but not to truly learn anything worthwhile.

She was an amazing person. A role model for us all.

That said, the current batch of contestants and clues are not the same as they were. Everything is geared towards qualifying people for their tournaments. So we get a lot of obscure world capitols and sci-fi movies. Successful women governors are probably low on the list, because the nerd contestants they want don't care about things like that.

There was never much culture or civilization about it, it was MAGA way or the highway even before J6. Maybe voters now realize MAGA and Eloon and Trump and the GOP are hollowing out our institutions, government, social compact, communities, and life itself?

that message got through. iirc, it was the group ‘run for something’ that said they have just been flooded since nov 5. they had a huge surge after 2016, which is how the blue wave in 18 happened. they said it’s now 100x that.quite a few of those winners r still serving.
we didnt just take the house, we took state house seats, and just here in il, we made big dents in 3 red county boards. since then we have added to those seats. at least 1 is now blue.

when republican voters actually see how dems govern, they realize we arent commie pinkos coming to take your stuff, and pervert their kids.

i think the ONLY reason tx hasnt flipped is guns. both beto and alred lost on that, and that alone. i dont care what the polling said.
that’s a box that’s hard to get out of, and i dont have the key.
but perhaps this is a sign that ppl r starting to value their children more than their guns.

Will the far right MAGA types challenge the votes? Will there be mini insurrections in those counties where they lost? For some reason I’m not certain they are going to take these losses lightly. Please prove me wrong!

It starts local.

News coming in from all over the state that all of the super MAGA anti-public education school board candidates were defeated.

And this picture is why I fight. At the Katy ISD school board election night party, my son was able to reconnect with his former principal, and newly appointed Katy ISD school board member, James Cross, to let him know how he made a lasting impression on his life.

And having ousted the Mom’s For Liberty endorsed candidate from our community, James Cross will now be in the position to fight for ALL of the students in our district.

It was one of those truly special full circle moments.

This community is healing. This community is FIGHTING. And I am here for every single second. 💙

I hope I live long enough to see that return. Viva Ann Richards! We need another one or many more of her.
