Bloomington voters approve incorporation in weekend election

BLOOMINGTON, Texas — Residents of Bloomington voted Saturday to incorporate the community, a move that will establish it as an official municipality within Victoria County.

A total of 187 residents, or 75.71% of voters, supported the incorporation measure. Sixty voters, representing 24.29%, opposed it.

In addition to the incorporation vote, residents elected their first local officials. Mayoral candidate Bernadette Walker ran unopposed and was elected as the town’s first mayor. Also running unopposed were Sarah Stindt for Commissioner Position 1 and Ernesto Longoria for Commissioner Position 2.

The decision to incorporate means parts of Bloomington will now be governed as a municipality, giving the community more local control over services and governance.
