VA-LG: Lt. Governor candidate Ghazala Hashmi talks unity, Democratic strategy for undecided voters

13News Now spoke with Hashmi on the campaign strategy for Democrats in the months ahead, as well as Hashmi's policies in the event she wins the Lieutenant Governor's race.

We know that Trump himself has never really played well as a candidate here in Virginia. But as we speak, Republicans control all statewide offices. So even though Trump hasn’t really played well in Virginia, Democrats nationally are in an interesting position right now. How is your ticket going to appeal to voters with that kind of dichotomy?

I think voters are going to see a clear contrast between the Democratic ticket and the folks running on the Republican side. Frankly, they are not even a ticket. They have yet to do a joint event together or release a joint press statement. The dysfunctionality we see in Washington is reflected in the dysfunctionality of the ticket they are presenting to Virginians.

The clear lines of distinction are that we as Democrats have been fighting to protect Virginians, given the chaos and the effects of the Trump administration. Critically in front of us is the catastrophe we're going to face in our health care system should the Trump administration and the Republican Congress move forward on dismantling Medicaid. Medicaid expansion is in danger here in Virginia.
