t’s the final week of the 2026 regular legislative session in Olympia.

Here’s a rundown of NPI priority bills that are on the move.

SB 5974 (updating and strengthening qualifications and accountability standards for all sheriffs, police chiefs, and town marshals): The Washington State Senate concurred in the House amendments to SB 5974, which passed off the House floor last week after an extremely long floor debate. The Senate’s action completes the bill’s journey through the legislative process, and the legislation will now be delivered to Governor Bob Ferguson, who is expected to sign it.
