Taylor County field set for 2026 primary election; Board of Education and Grafton council races draw high interest

GRAFTON, W.Va. — With the May 2026 primary election still months away, the field of candidates seeking county, state, and city offices in Taylor County is coming into focus.

Following the close of the filing period, Taylor County Clerk Jaron Freeman released the list of candidates for the upcoming primary election.

“These are the filings as of the close of our office on Saturday, Jan. 31, which wrapped up the in-person candidate filing deadline,” Freeman said. “However, the state’s filing system remained open until 11:59 p.m. In addition, there is still time to receive mail-in filings that are postmarked by the deadline, so there could be some additions to this list.”

Interest is strong in the Taylor County Board of Education races. Candidates from the Tygart District include Clark Sinclair, Michelle Gallo, and Stewart K. Whitehair. Leslie Beltner and Patricia Ann Chase have filed from the Eastern District, while Jason McDaniel and Clint Shaw have filed from the Western District.
