I have a rudimentary knowledge of how to use the app, I can cut and paste layers etc, scale images, whatnot. I am not an artist so most of my skills involve manipulating clipart and photos into something new.
I have a basic shape that I want to "fill" with a photo. I used the Fill bucket, selected my image as the filler, and yet it's not coming out at all! It's coming out grayscale and like it's got transparency... I dont know what I did wrong because a lot of the terms are not anything I understand, so I'm doing this by trial and error and it's getting really frustrating cuz it should be an easy thing!
GAH! does anyone wanna do it FOR me and I will fucking pay you $100!
Update...
I got the base down and can't do the rest. I can't make anything transparent... I am literally a writer NOT an artist! I ended up posting on my local FB group for a graph9c artist to help me...maybe it won't cost an arm/leg...

(67 posts)Making sure you have the correct layer selected. You may be applying the fill to the "Background" layer. Additionally, when selecting the fill tool, there may be an option to change it from gradient to a solid color.
GIMP's User Interface is atrocious so it's difficult to know off the top of my head where I elements are. But, that's a good start for your sanity check.
