(60,320 posts)It sends anonymous search requests to Microsoft Bing and reports back. Bing is not as good as Google, so about one out of 50 requests I specify Google.

(9,223 posts)Did download the browser, but I don't think it's better than firefox, so sticking with the fox for browsing. Duckduckgo.com is my go-to search engine

(2,127 posts)I've been using them as my default search engine for years. Very very rarely I'll go to googe.com and do a search that returns better results than Duck Duck Go (for very odd/obscure queries), but it's great 99% of the time.
And their privacy can't be beat. I got really tired of doing a Google search only to see related items in my ad feeds for weeks afterwards. That just doesn't happen with DDG.
And ... that's before you even pull back the curtain on just how evil Google has become. Perhaps DDG will turn evil some day, but Google is already something to be avoided.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
