A scathing interview with a 5th grade teacher who was in the room when Common Core was being created
"We spoke with Brad McQueen, a 5th grade teacher from Arizona who after working on the development/review of rubrics and questions on the PARCC/Common Core test grew disgusted with what he was seeing and decided to speak out about it, ultimately self-publishing a book titled The Cult of Common Core.
<snip>
Working on the CCore test was a very different experience and had 50 more shades of bureaucracy. My Common Core handlers werent interested in my questions about where the standards came from, who wrote them, who wrote the test questions, etc. If they did attempt an answer they usually parroted the phrase Teachers were involved. Something didnt feel right.
My turning point came when in answer to questions I had about a student writing sample, my Common Core handler blurted out, We dont ever care what the kids opinions are. If they write what they think or put forth their opinion then they will fail the test.

(57,936 posts)I don't know any Progressives who like the Common Core.
Why in the world does it exist if both the left and the right don't like it and don't want it?
Who is foisting it on America's schools?

(50,983 posts)It's not a progressive thing. And Beck remains a dipshit.
Seems to be a bunch of people behind the scene foisting things on America that no one wants.

(60,067 posts)I see it as an indication of just what a failure the CC is when I, a far left liberal, am reading a Blaze article and nodding my head.
Finally, something we can all agree on!
And yet, it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, and the psychological waterboarding of teachers and neglect of students continue.
The fact that it's from Glenn Beckistan is a red flag but the perspective is shared by many teachers.
