Linda Darling-Hammond on the common core standards

Just ran across this, and thought I'd share. She SHOULD be Secretary of Education.

1. She nails what I've been saying for 2 decades now:

It's not the standards, it's the misuse of the standards and the tests.

I often look at predictors. Poverty is the greatest predictor of standardized test outcomes, and, for me, appointing Arne Duncan instead of LD-H as Secretary of Education was the clear predictor of what I could expect from the Obama administration.

2. YES as to what you've been saying for 2 decades,

but no way I'd have predicted what this administration would do.

3. I listened

to what Obama said about education in the '08 primaries; about how "some teachers were unhappy with him," and about how education was one of the things Republicans "got right." I watched his response to my association's endorsement, which I did not support.

I'm very, very sorry to have been correct.
