India & Pakistan Prepare for War - Joe Blogs

In this video I discuss the rising tension between India and Pakistan and ask the question as to whether it could lead to War in 2025? India and Pakistan both have claims over the disputed Kashmir region and this has resulted in multiple conflicts over the past 70 years. On 22 April, 26 Indians were killed in a terrorist attack in the Indian part of Kashmir. India has accused Pakistan of being involved and as a result have closed the border and suspended the Indus Water Treaty. The suspension of this Treaty could have massive implications for Pakistan as 30% of its electricity is generated from Hydro power using this water and millions of people are reliant upon the water for irrigation for crops which generate 25% of Pakistan's GDP. Tension is now rising and the Pakistan Defense Minister has stated that he believes an attack is imminent. Both India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons and the risk of war between the two nations raises the prospects of a nuclear stand off.

This has gotten very little attention on major news outlets across the planet, probably because people are holding their breaths as they wait and see whether common sense prevails after a few nasty skirmishes and both countries negotiate.

I don't think that's going to happen for a while. Modi has displayed an almost pathological hatred for Muslims in India, something extended toward Pakistan. Once he cut off the headwaters of the Indus River, Pakistan's main fresh water supply, he made a much more serious conflict inevitable.

I think the only good news is that the forces being assembled and used at the border are all conventional, so I doubt either side wants to start tossing nukes. The bad news is that this will likely happen if one side or the other gets desperate. Past wars have been short and conventional. This one might be different because of Modi's overreaction, cutting off their wate.

Most of the world seems to be holding its collective breath, hoping this de-escalates.
