Iran in Serious Trouble - Joe Blogs
Iran is facing its most serious internal unrest in years, driven by soaring inflation, a collapsing currency, and a sharp decline in living standards. Across the country, protests have erupted as ordinary Iranians struggle to cope with rising prices, shortages, and economic mismanagement.
In this video, we look at the scale of the unrest, reports of mass detentions, and claims that more than 100 people have been killed as Iranian authorities attempt to suppress the demonstrations.
The crisis has now taken on an international dimension. Donald Trump has warned Iran that the United States could take action if the protests are handled brutally. In response, Iran has issued a stark warning of its own stating that it reserves the right to launch pre-emptive strikes against U.S. military bases and the Occupied Territory, a term Tehran uses to refer to Israel.
We then step back and examine the history of Irans oil industry from its early cooperation with Britain and the United States, through nationalization, revolution, sanctions, and isolation and explain why oil, sovereignty, and foreign intervention remain so politically explosive inside Iran.
Finally, we assess whether economic collapse, internal unrest, and external pressure could combine to trigger a wider regional conflict or even another revolution inside Iran.
