Greta and her followers still have no idea who we Israelis are

When I watched the clip where Greta Thunberg calls for help from Sweden because she had been “kidnapped” by Israel, I felt overwhelmed with rage.

I’m sick that she was cosplaying as a hostage. As we’ve all seen in the news images, she was fed and watered and gently escorted off her boat so that she wouldn’t make a dangerous spectacle that would end in more death. She should be thanking the IDF for saving her life, rather than continuing to pretend that she’s doing anything other than virtue signaling for attention.

The literal chutzpah, to sail into a war zone just to make a point, knowing that it can never end the way you want it to, only to be treated with civility and rejecting it with disdain. The audacity to claim that you have been kidnapped by the IDF, while we have Israeli hostages still sitting in the darkness, starving, and wasting away and you are fighting for the side that refuses to let them go…

All this belies a level of delusion, of narcissism, of white savior performance art that is so offensive, disgusting, and sick that it’s hard to believe this is what the world has come to. I read the comments on her video, and there are millions of people in the world who are championing her, congratulating her, supporting this madness, and I can’t make it make sense.

We are fighting for our lives here.

Much more at the link.

Disclaimer: This is not my opinion. It is a perspective of an Israeli, not uncommon in Israel, which is far removed from US or world politics, a perspective rarely considered and often misunderstood, a perspective which only a handful of DUers would otherwise come in contact with.

on a boat which intended to and was about to violate the blockade of Gaza, about 150 miles off shore. The boat itself was either in Egyptian exclusive economic zone in close proximity to Israeli exclusive economic zone or inside the latter. She was detained at around 2 am local time on June 9, 2023. She was detained on the boat along with other 11 passengers and crew who were all given food and water by the Israeli commandos who commandeered the boat and escorted it to the Israeli port of Ashdod on the same day.

Hope this helps.

Still sounds like kidnapping to me, I don't belive any country should be able to block a boat delivering aid to desperate people.

and Israel's exclusive economic zone. Exclusive economic zones are not considered high seas or international waters, and are governed by different rules. Gaza's territorial waters (more accurately, Palestine's territorial waters are surrounded by the exclusive economic zones of Israel and Egypt. There is no way to reach Gaza other than going through either one of those zones.

What things sound like to you and what you believe has no reflection in international maritime laws and the laws of war.

Greta Thunberg was detained by Israeli forces on a Gaza-bound aid ship, the Madleen, which was seized about 200 kilometers (125 miles) off Gaza's coast in international waters. This event took place early on a Monday, with Israeli naval forces intercepting the ship without incident. The boat, along with the detained activists, was then brought to the Israeli port of Ashdod later that evening.

Sounds like to me she was kidnapped in international waters, not detained.

3. This is my American perspective....

Israel can resolve the conflict by withdrawing from the territories occupied since 1967 and accepting the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Israeli dependence on the West for support will not last forever and the sooner this happens the better.

none of them were subject to your rather odd question, even though they dominate the Israel/Palestine forum. My post, on the other hand, was illuminating the Israeli viewpoint without defending it, and yet it prompted your question.

Like I said, the viewpoints of Israelis themselves are precious few and far between. They are certainly worthy of being brought out of the dark in consideration for introducing some semblance of balance in the expressed viewpoints.

I wonder, what if I was not American, what difference would it have made?

Israel offered that to Arafat back in 2000, and he rejected it.

I am in favor of withdrawing from the WB unilaterally if need be, all of Gaza. Old city of Jerusalem stays in Israel's hands, as it was never supposed to be a part of a Palestine. Wash their hands of the whole mess, and tell the UN to come in as peacekeepers in WB and Gaza to stop any terror attacks from either place. Let the UN deal with the mess.

Israel started this latest conflict by "preemptively" attacking Iran. Clearly, Israel intends to turn Iran into a huge Gaza by going after so-called "military installations and weapons sites" but killing hundreds and thousands of civilians. Israel clearly violates every international law but does not even accept international laws just like their tyrannical buddy Trump. Both Trump and Netanyahu belong in jail. Thousands of lives across the globe would be spared if they were held accountable for their war crimes. Israel clearly, wants the rest of the world to turn against Iran and they want the US to actively enter the war against Iran. If the rest of the world allows that to happen it deserves the consequences. I have never met an Iranian who wasn't gracious, polite, and highly skilled as medical professionals working colleagues. The world is being led to irreversible hate and conflict by greedy, hateful, men and women at the top of the most advanced war machines in the world. We are all going to pay a heavy toll. This time it is not to save the world from one psychotic madman but dozens of madmen whose self-aggrandizement and racism know no bounds. It is unreal how so many fall for the lies and cruelties. The universe is unfolding in treacherous abandon.

Are you still talking about Greta, or are you deflecting?

If you are deflecting, how much do you know about international law to comment on it? How much do you know about Iran's proxies attacking Israel for decades? How much do you know about Iran's nuclear program? How much do you know about Iran's regional ambitions at the expense of its neighboring Arab states? How much do you know about the centuries old conflict between Shia and Sunni Muslims?

From what you posted above, I can tell it ain't much. So don't expect me to respond to your narrow-sighted misinformed rant.

And in this thread, try sticking with what Israelis think of Greta, or start your own thread if you don't feel like it.
