Bring out your amaranths!

I don't really know why this one got so tall.

I transplanted it out of the pepper bed which had some composted manure in it, into a hole with some pine needles and dirt I scooped up beside the house.

None of the others come close. Still going today, in D.C./Md. area.

5. We grew Hopi Red dye amaranth many years ago...

… once.
It crossed with the native pigweed, a weed in our garden. Now we have purple leaved “amaranth” (pigweed) as a weed every year. It’s easy to identify, as it’s purplish red, even as a small seedling.
Grew some to maturity this year so we could harvest some of the seed to experiment with it as a natural dye.
So I’ll have plenty of purple weeds in our garden, probably forever!

7. It's an Amaranthus species for sure

But I’m not sure which one.
I learned it as pigweed, but maybe that’s not the commonly accepted name for it.
