My cat scared the crap out of me!

I was getting the mail yesterday. I don't know if her head got caught in the door or I accidentally stepped on her tail, but she flew into a rage. She started growling and hissing at me and wouldn't let me in the house for almost an hour. It didn't matter what door I went to, she'd be there. My wife mixed some gabepentyn (sp?) into her food bowl and that seemed to calm her down a little. Then she held her while I snuck in the front door and ran upstairs. She followed me up but kept her distance. Finally, after about 15 minutes she hopped up on my bed and chilled out.

Have you ever had this happen to you?

She was normally pretty gentle, though sometimes a bit temperamental - if you did something that bothered her (she hated being stepped over, for example), she'd hiss at you. I got her when she was just a kitten, so prior trauma didn't explain her occasional prickliness. I especially recall one time when she went after my ankles, not playing at all, and I had to hold her away with a broom while she screeched and swatted at me, and I have no idea what got her going. Sometimes that sort of behavior is displacement; maybe she had got into it with one of the other cats and took it out on me. She'd also get worked up sometimes if she saw other cats outside. So maybe it was something like that?

I have always treated our acrobatic cats as my good friends, and have gained
the love and friendship of many.

We on the other hand, are big and clumsy, and we make mistakes with regards to our
feline companions.

If you caused an accident injuring your friend wouldn't you do anything in your
power to make up for it?

Well, cats like friends, can take offense as well. It's good to remember this, because
they will. In this case after a great deal of thought, your cat decided to forgive you.
You'll need to be genuinely friendly to get back to your previous relationship with your cat...

I promise it will be worth it.
