Related: About this forumWas at dog park and thinking of what Will Rodgers said about Heaven and dogs
If there are no dogs in Heaven then when I die I want to go where they went.
Im fond of all furry people yet I have a soft spot for labs especially chocolate labs and Golden retrievers then I still love the rest from purebred to muts weve had both . I sat on the bench this afternoon like Liz and I would do holding hands watching laughing at the furry best members of the world.
Today watching Dunc run and playing we pulled in he knew where we were at whining excitement lets get out the car man. Mr Dunc he was still so full of energy a happy boy after I picked him up from pup play camp after he was there 7.5 hours.
The furry greetings the ass sniffing introductions the pup stretch the play bow as in hey lets play the zoomies chasing each other. A young couple next to me were trying to clap and get their furry boys attention he was wanting to hump other dogs it I think embarrassed them.
I wanted to say relax its how dogs operate and besides your pup is really not that great at humping other dogs he was actually trying to go alpha hump from the side . Id never say that yet I found their dog hilarious in trying to figure out the best position to hump another dog our best friends are just so sweet and innocent.

(15,953 posts)We had to stop going to the one near us because of aggressive dogs with their parents ignoring the behavior. Humping was the precursor to a lot of fights. There was one guy who sat on a bench immersed in his phone while his pushy dog was a big problem.
We don't go there any more, but I do take Snoop to "camp" (doggie day care) where the pups are well supervised and enjoy lots of zoomies and treats.
You are lucky to have a good place to go with the boy.

(26,309 posts)in May. Jagger was only 8. We got him as a rescue at age 3. He was our "heart dog," our empty nest dog; a grateful, gracious rescue from a sketchy early life. All he wanted was to "guard" us.
Gotta stop or I'll dissolve into tears again.
So the big q is: how long to wait for our next one?
Interested in feedback.
Gotta say, my life is so much better with a dog in it!

(26,309 posts)All our previous dogs lived out a full life. I couldn't have imagined how much this would hurt. Truly the loss of a family member!
He went EVERYWHERE with us!

(26,591 posts)We call new furry family members successors.
cilla4progress
(26,309 posts)I think Jag would want us to find a successor so that we are always protected, as he did.
It took some time to realize that not only did he love our hikes, but what he really loved was safeguarding us.

(26,591 posts)after one has departed, as successors, never as replacements. We have had many successors over the decades.
They all are different and have their own personalities. We must not put certain expectations on a new furry member of the family by thinking they will be like the previous beloved pets.

(28,328 posts)Hard for me to live without one. New sweet kitty filled in for awhile but I broke down, twisted hubs arm, & got a Lab pup (he insisted on the purebred pup; I didn't care as long as it was a dog).

Edited to add that shelters discriminate against older people; they will not let us adopt!! We had to go to a private breeder.

Joey.
It has been decades since I have had a dog that was my choice. Over the years dogs have come and gone. My wife has a big heart and would bring home any animal she ran across that needed a home. That is how we ended up with 2 dogs from the mean streets of Kaui. Nice dogs, just aren't up for long distance hiking and generally messing around in the hills.
I have high hopes for Joey. He has been very fortunate to have met many wonderful people who cared for him, healed him and have done an excellent job training him.
I am a very lucky person to have him come into my life ❤️ 💓 💖 💕
