It was pretty surreal being there for a year. I often thought about how years later, would troops go visit the places they were during the war, like after after WW II?

Nah, of course not. Too bad! I thought it was a real shame that the service and sacrifice of all the troops I was serving with was going to amount to... nothing, in a way. Nobody was going to take their family to Baghdad to see the sights, visit Iraqis they met, visit solumn graveyards where American troops would lie in honor.
