Related: About this forumI bought myself a 'smart' watch to track my activity level.
Not an expensive one. It tracks my steps, oxygen saturation, heart beat and sleep pattern, among other things. VERY interesting. I had a not so good night's sleep and it's definitely reflected in what the reading showed, this morning.
It connects to a 'Fit Bit' app. I have no idea what that is but my niece said she will explain it to me so I can decide if I want to connect.
Anyone else use one of these?

(124,534 posts)as a way to get me to exercise and lose weight. I started walking 2-4 miles a day, and have done it ever since, and the watch keeps track. The fitness tracker watch (a Garmin VivoSmart) connects via Bluetooth to my iPhone, which collects and displays the data I've set it up for, including heart rate, steps, sleep, calories burned, etc. It sort of reminds me to stay active, and it also has a feature that alerts me to breaking news by vibrating. When it gives me that alert I always check it right away, in case it's the big news we've all been waiting for....

(35,558 posts)Before I use to count laps too. Then it always was the same for the time.
Now I can just look at the time and know how many steps and miles I got in.

(27,536 posts)I especially loved it when I was in California, visiting family because we always too long walks, both in town (Glendale) and on the beach. We would walk back and forth from Venice Beach to Santa Monica.
Other than that aspect, I really wanted a smart watch to track my sleep pattern. It seems I'm getting more light sleep, than deep. And the REM sleep level (low) is a big concern for me. Probably why I'm always so tired. I'm not really getting the best night's sleep, even if I'm not waking up, every few hours

(109,439 posts)and the online "dashboard" disappeared. I'd been tracking steps and distance on Fitbit since the beginning with the goal of logging enough distance to equate to walking around the world 24,901 miles) within the next 5-7 years and was on track to do so sans major crippling injury/illness. Now, the only way to see cumulative data is to request a data export (they want everyone to move to the premium paid plan but I don't know that that restores what used to be readily accessible online data from the dashboard).
So, I own and use an Apple Watch as well but FITBIT doesn't allow its data to count. So, I'm trying to decide what to do. I enjoyed Fitbit all those years but this is really upsetting.
The other app I've used for many many years is Myfitnesspal which allows you to manually track fitness data, but also nutrition and analyze recipes as well. It is extremely useful and highly recommended.

(24,961 posts)I love it for tracking walking and sleep. I don't use the nutrition or hydration parts of it though.

(12,576 posts)When she got a new one. I dont know all of its features but it does nag me, time to stand. I had a stupid accident on my bike and fell sideways, scraping my knee. The watch went crazy, dinging and vibrating, it seems you fell, are you okay? I was afraid if I didnt quickly reassure it, it would call 911 and dispatch an ambulance.
