living in the lie

i am not an evil man but i have lived in the lie
accepting it as a truth and never seeing outside
life was given in hand yet never hearing the cry
that all was with no proof in this artificial pride
gaining privilege in a color a superiority by sex
i wasn’t wanting nor hungry and seldom denied
imagining others are duller thinking so complex
an unknown country or what a freedom implied
choosing to wear rags as my fashion statement
the defiant beard and hair hanging in a ponytail
baggy jeans that drag rainbow patched raiment
sallow callow and threadbare setting up the fail
look back in amazed wonder at a derelict waste
rising still despite blunder reality was embraced
