Related: About this forumI don't know where the strike zone is anymore
I don't think MLB-TV does, either.
In the seventh inning of the Dodgers-Mariners game, I noticed the top of the rectangle was at hitters' belts and the bottom about six inches below their knees.
For as long as I've known, it was from the letters -- or, at least, the lowest rib of the ribcsge -- to the tops of the kneecaps.
What the hell happened? And, when?

(14,947 posts)1. Operator error? Here's what google AI says:
The rectangular graphic on TV broadcasts is a 2D approximation of the batter's unique strike zone, a 3D rectangular prism, created by a broadcast graphics operator. The width is fixed to the 17-inch width of home plate, while the height is adjusted for each batter based on their individual stance, typically from the midpoint between their shoulders and belt to the hollow of their knees. While this box helps viewers understand the strike zone, it's an imperfect tool because of camera angles, 2D projection of a 3D space, and potential human error by the operator.

Must be long ago.
Ted Williams hit .400 with a strike zone "from the letters to the knees" amazing!
The ABS system is coming next year, IIRC.
