The remains of a synagogue in southern California destroyed in last Januarys Eaton wildfire were vandalized over the weekend with anti-Zionist messages.
The rabbi of the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center and the Anti-Defamation League decried the vandalism as antisemitic.
The vandalism of the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center is antisemitism full stop, ADL Los Angeles senior regional director David Englin said in a statement. This was a deliberate act of hate meant to intimidate a Jewish community already rebuilding after last years fire, and it comes at a time when antisemitism is already at unprecedented levels in California and nationwide. Targeting a synagogue is simply unacceptable and represents an attack on our entire community.
Photographs of the graffiti showed that it was scrawled in black spray paint on an exterior wall fence and read RIP Renee followed by F Zionizm [sic].

I'll also add - there is a direct line of historical alliance between foundational Black Americans and the Jewish community. We are one.

(4,982 posts)officials was discounting it was based on anti-semitism. I don't know how stupid they think people are, but antisemitic tropes that the airwaves and social media are constantly bombared with definitely are complicit in incidents like this.
There is a book, "Heart of a Stranger", by Rabbi Angela Buchdahl, which has a chapter documenting how she became involved in the Colleyville hostate situation.
Angela Buchdahl is the first Asian American to be ordained as a rabbi, and she gives an account of her journey from feeling like an outsider to becoming one of the most admired religious leaders in the world.
I highly recommend the book. Her experience of growing up, becoming the Senior Rabbi of thee Central Synagogue in New York, going through the COVID pandemic, October 7, etc. reflect what many of us felt.
