This can be a sad time of the year for so many. This is the second holiday season without my mom and as the leaves fall from the trees, the wind brings in the cold and the days end early the sadness easily overwhelms.
I heard this version of Smile for the first time this morning and found it on Youtube. Steven dedicated this to his dad who had recently lost his wife (Steven's mom). Steven's dad has since died. Such a beautiful song.

and (although i'm very familiar with the the song) i'm listening to the lyrics and in spite of them it is such a melancholy song.
this is my 5th autumn/winter season without my mom. i sometimes wonder how i have survived for so long without her.
