Sturgis to re-count special election ballots

STURGIS — A recount of the Sturgis special election results next week will not change the outcome of the election, but it will ensure that all records are accurate, city officials say.

On Thursday, the Sturgis City Council met in special session to canvass the special election results and swear in newly elected Mayor Rod Bradley and Ward 1 Councilman Terry Keszler. However, after reviewing the poll books, city council members reported some discrepancies in the numbers for Wards 1, 3, and 4. The numbers for Ward 2 were accurate, Mayor Pro Tempore Tony Dargatz said.

The ballots for the Sturgis special municipal election June 2 were hand counted.

“We feel the numbers aren’t enough to change the results of the election, but we want to actually have for sure numbers,” Dargatz said.
