Seattle Storm's Katie Lou Samuelson out for 2025 season with torn ACL, team confirms

SEATTLE — Seattle Storm forward Katie Lou Samuelson will miss the entire 2025 WNBA season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her right knee during practice on Thursday, May 1, the team announced today.

The injury is a major setback for both Samuelson and the Storm, who brought her back to the roster this year with high expectations. She rejoined the team by signing a one-year deal on February 20, 2025, marking her second debut in Seattle. Samuelson previously played for the Storm during the 2021 WNBA season after being acquired in a trade on February 10, 2021.

Samuelson, 27, has built a strong reputation as a skilled shooter and versatile forward. A former UConn standout, she ranks No. 4 on the Huskies’ all-time scoring list with over 2,000 points and sits second in career three-pointers made. She was selected fourth overall in the 2019 WNBA Draft and later represented Team USA in 3×3 basketball at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In 2024, she played for Indiana Fever, appearing in 37 games and averaging 4.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists over 18 minutes per game. Her best season came in 2022 with the Los Angeles Sparks, when she posted career highs of 9.7 points per game and shot 35.2% from three-point range while starting 29 of 32 games.
