(Reuters) - U.S. Representative John Lewis of Georgia endorsed Joe Bidens presidential campaign on Tuesday, giving the Democrats bid further support among the partys black leadership.
Joe Biden has no delusion about this nations past, but he knows who we can be at our best, Lewis said in a campaign video announcing his support.
Lewis is known for his activism in the 1960s in support of civil rights for black Americans.
Biden is seeking his partys nomination to face President Donald Trump in the Nov. 3 election.

(42,862 posts)I suspect that even as I write this, in some dark, seedy, and racist corners of the internet... there are hotheaded revolutionary malcontents who are booing him. Sad that there is so much hate and bigotry in the world. It's very distressing.

(58,785 posts)a grim business, though. Rep. Lewis says he'll campaign aggressively to elect his friend Joe Biden, "travel around America to support him." I hope the traveling is from the comfort of this big man's own home, but we know he'll do what he decides he needs to. There's nothing more important.
If we fail to vote, we dont count, he said. But he also expressed concern about voting against the backdrop of a pandemic, in a nation that has struggled with voter suppression, saying that he worried about whether the country would have a free election.
I just hope that, in spite of whatever is going on now, that people will not be afraid to come out and vote, he said. We have to vote.
