37. Is Trump playing, or is Trump being played?

The fatal flaw of authoritarianism is that the leader’s whims are realized. Changing the Kennedy Center’s agenda to show that the Right likes the “right” kind of art or music is one thing, but creating a nuclear crisis is quite another. Trump loves to play the extortionist against weaker opponents, bullying and blustering until he gets some result. The very best scenario is that he’s doing that now. But it looks more likely that Trump himself is being extorted by Netanyahu and he is simply not qualified to deal with it.
