(2,704 posts)Tabulators. Those beautiful vote counting computers.
Musk attacked EVMs that they can be hacked. He said "Anything can be hacked." He got into with India's Chandrasekhar. Chandrasekhar said " where they (USA) use regular computer platforms to build internet connected voting machines." "Indian EVMs are custom designed, secure and isolated from any network or media."
Trump signed an EO on 2/18/25 to "reign in" independent agencies. The Federal Election Commission in charge of campaign finance laws and the Election Assistance Commission that is in charge of EVMs intrigrity.
As a side the first EVMs came out in 1976. 1998 Trump was being investigated for Russian ties. The Taj Mahal casino broke anti-money laundering rules 106 times. The gamblers who cashed out $10,000 or more in a single day. The settlement was the largest fine the federal government gave a casino for violating the Bank Secrecy Act. They were laundering money using slot machines.
Ivanka secured trademarks for EVMs. She applied in 2016 and got them in 2019.
In 2024 Tina Peters was sentenced to 9 years of prison. She allowed a man to misuse a security card to access Mesa County election system and being deceptive about the man's identity. 3 counts of attempting to influence a public servant. 1 count of conspiracy to commit criminal impersonation. 1st degree official misconduct, violation of duty and failing to comply with the secretary of state. The man was affiliated with Mike Lindell. James Baker had brought up these concerns in the Commission. The issue was setting up the machines for the upcoming election what was focused on was the Big Lie.
Dr. Hugh Thompson, Florida Institute of Technology, " Tabulators are EASILY hacked, both before and after the election. Votes can be changed in as little as 60 seconds if someone has access to the machine. Therefore no, one other than poll workers should be allowed into the room where the Tabulator is located. Physically and securely transport the data from where the votes were cast to where they are counted rather than using a modem. Memory cards should be treated with the same security as a box of ballots or a Brink's truckload of money. Unlike transporting money there is No Way to know the content of the memory cards as they leave the polling stations, nor does the person receiving the data know what to expect so any tampering on the way cannot, in any way, be detected."
Dr. Avid Rubin, John Hopkins University, "Because of the myriad problems possible at every stage of the electronic voting process and the possibility that the software in the Tabulator might be faulty or even rigged, it is a good idea to reconcile the precinct counts by hand to check that the numbers that come out of the Tabulator,at the end of the process, match the actual precinct totals." Dr. Rubin led a team that analyzed code from Diebold and found flaws that basic training in secure code would prevent. " The only way vendors are going to produce auditable machines is if they are forced to." "We still don't have a process for ensuring that people writing the code of those machines know what they are doing, or are not malicious."
James Baker, "The greater threat to most systems is not from external hackers but from insiders who have direct access to the machines. Software can be modified maliciously before being installed into individual voting machines. There is no reason to trust insiders in the election industry any more than in other industries such as gambling, where sophisticated insider fraud has occurred despite extraordinary measures to prevent it."
Back to Trump's 106 times of money laundering.
