Pentagon speakers withdraw last minute from Aspen Security [View all]

"Just one day before the Aspen Security Forum began, Pentagon speakers dropped out because “their values do not align with the values of the Department of Defense.”

The four-day forum at the Aspen Institute began Tuesday morning, with roughly a dozen speakers from the Pentagon pulled less than 24 hours prior. The given reason for doing so is accredited to a claim of colliding values.

“Senior Department of Defense officials will no longer be participating at the Aspen Security Forum because their values do not align with the values of the DoD,” Chief Pentagon Spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement. “The Department will remain strong in its focus to increase the lethality of our warfighters, revitalize the warrior ethos, and project Peace Through Strength on the world stage. It is clear the ASF is not in alignment with these goals.”

The Office of the Secretary of Defense declined requests for any additional comment on the matter."
