(26,198 posts)59. That is true. Land that is actively farmed is valued for taxation purposes at a much lower rate than residential land.
However, the value of the land were it to be subdivided for residential use is often quoted in evaluating a farming family's wealth. As long as they farm the land, they have no access to the capital they could earn if they stopped farming and sold the land for subdivision.
