(1,580 posts)Even his spineless GOP patsies in Congress would be saying fuck no on that. However, he may be trying to get the Taliban to give it back in exchange for aid. Not sure how I feel about that, but we did occupy it for many many years before, even during his first term, so probably meh as long as nobody gets unalived. But all he really wants is to feel like he's undoing everything Biden did, or doing things 'better'. Obama too. He's a giant man baby and pathological narcissist. There's probably not a single General recommending this action.
Also, I call bullshit on the entire Chinese weapons thing. I think what he want is for the US to be set up to either side of Iran (the other side being Kuwait, Iraq, KSA, and Oman, at least one or two of which would let the US stage from there).
Here's what AI said about his claim:
A modern fighter jet (like an F-16, F-35, or similar Chinese jet) typically cruises at speeds between Mach 1 and Mach 2 (approximately 1,2002,400 km/h). At these speeds, it could theoretically cover 2,000 km in around one hour, under ideal, direct conditions without accounting for airspace restrictions, aerial refueling, or military operational realities.
Bottom line:
Trump's "an hour away" remark only makes sense when referring to the possible flight time of a supersonic military aircraft, not the physical proximity by car or conventional means. Overland or by subsonic craft, it would take much longer. In practical terms, even with a fighter jet, this would require complex operations due to international borders, air defense, and logistical factors. But in pure flight time, yes, it is about an hour for a modern fighter jet
So to give perspective, Minneapolis is "an hour away" from Phoenix by Trump's definition.
