He likely does not have the empathy to understand how difficult both pregnancy and the joyful but hard first months of taking care of a new born are.
I remember how unexpectedly I felt completely inept when my first child was born. Fortunately, I had my mom, mother of 9, to call every time something worried me. However, the best thing she told me was how she had felt the same. This from my mom who always seemed to be able to do everything, kids, work etc, extremely well and presumably effortlessly
I was fortunate to have easy, healthy babies. Yet I remember my fear that any mistake could "break" my first baby. Now, seeing my daughter care for her one month old son, I see how hard it really is to care for a newborn.
