1. These are conflicting ideologies, private interests vs. the public good

If it were about the budget, there would have been across-the-board cuts in my view. -7% on everything. Democrats would have agreed. But we are in all-or-none territory. Obliteration and restructuring is in progress. We have no choice but to hunker down. The public will be late to the game to cut their spending to protect what they can for themselves. They think it's all coming back, that a rising tide will lift all boats.
