(12,134 posts)Its chief difference was its arc; she (and the rest of the family) suffered with it for 15 years, perhaps more - the onset was slow and subtle, and she was always a little odd.. The last time she ever addressed me directly, she pointed with a very shaky index finger and said "Coupons." My 5-year old son, not fully grasping the situation, thought that was comical.
God help me, even with my experience with this MFer of an illness, I see videos like this as hopeful. What has happened to us?
I know this is off-topic, but it hit me so hard in the feels that I sometimes feel the need to tell this little story.
My son and I lived on Vancouver Island in those days, and were on the ferry to the mainland to visit the fam. I thought I should take his temperature on this (so to speak) and prep him a little, if necessary. I told him that we were going to see Grandma, and she was quite sick. He said he knew, and thought he knew what was wrong.
I said "What do you think it is?"
He said "I think she has Old-Timers Disease."
"Right. Do you know what that is?"
"Yes. It's what robs the good times from your mind."
