1. Testing nuclear weapons

The last US underground nuclear test was on September 23, 1992, code-named "Divider". This test took place at the Nevada Test Site and was the final one before President George H.W. Bush announced a moratorium on nuclear weapons testing.

The reason Bush was able to announce the last nuclear test is that we ( the USA ) spent an enormous amount of money simulating nuclear bombs, especially aging nuclear bombs. The Department of Energy national laboratories were responsible for the development of the codes and the purchasing of the supercomputers needed for the simulations. The creation and testing of nuclear weapons IS what the DOE actually DOES... it has almost NO relationship with fossil fuels and only a little relationship with "renewable energy".

The national labs are the left over "Manhattan Project" labs... Oak Ridge, Los Alamos, Sandia, Argonne, Livermore, Berkeley, etc.

We no longer have any need to test nuclear devices. I don't know who put this in his head or if the deranged orange stroke-n-off thought of this all on his own, but it isn't needed, will be very expensive, and will further damage the environment.
