the first time, it would be to her advantage to apply for a work visa and citizenship to Canada. That way, she could stay close to friends and family in the U.S., but not be beaten down by the government here. If I'd been her age, I'd not have needed that advice from anyone... I'd have already gone. It doesn't take someone with clairvoyance to see where this country was headed in the near future. Of course, she didn't listen... and so she became one of those federal workers demoted from the post she used to hold (at a higher salary), and suffered the government shutdown.

At nearly 70, I have no options open to me anymore. I'm not rich, so I can't buy my way into a decent country. I'm too old for countries to want me. And, tho the move would be horrendous on me and my body, I'd willingly accept the pain and heartache associated with moving, if only I could. If we can't get rid of trump and the ENTIRE maladministration operating today... as well as all the R's waiting in the wings (like Vance), the future of this country is beyond grim. It's hard enough when you reach this age and people treat you like a child and talk down to you, even when you engage them in an intellectual discussion. It's doubly so when you realize no one really wants you around anymore. No one sees you as having worth any longer.
