(2,370 posts)anywhere in the country. That is exactly my point. Every state has laws about assault and every state has laws about impersonating a police officer. When these goons are acting beyond their remit, they need to be arrested and prosecuted. And that starts by making a 911 call. I have not seen anywhere that anybody has even bothered to call 911 in response to the gang of masked gunmen terrorizing their neighborhoods.
Why not? They all have phones in their hands. It is easy. Open the phone app. Punch in "9" then "1" then another "1".
It starts with us. Make the 911 call. Force the police, Mayor, Governor to make a decision. It does no good to have a judge issue an injunction if nobody calls the police on the goons. If a citizen has suffered an assault, they can demand to press charges.
Then, if the police refuse to act, THIS should be the news. We have to put pressure on cowardly politicians everywhere to stop backing down to Trump.
P.S. Assault is not just physical violence. In every statute I have seen, assault include acting in an intimidating manner that a person can reasonably expect to threaten violence or otherwise restrict their freedom. For example in MN, it is a misdemeanor assault if somebody
(1) commits an act with intent to cause fear in another of immediate bodily harm or death; or
(2) intentionally inflicts or attempts to inflict bodily harm upon another.
And in MN, a person is not allowed to possess a firearm if they are convicted of assault, and doing do becomes a gross misdemeanor, which can be one year in prison and a $3000 fine.
What are we waiting for? Are we a society of laws or aren't we?
