...a commonly observed feature in my family although dyslexia, which both my brother and uncle and possibly my grandfather all exhibited has been genetically mapped.

For most of my adult life I've pushed back against rote genetic reductionism associated with my brother's personality for obvious reasons.

People are fairly sloppy with these behavioral and difficult to measure properties associated with genes. Obviously genes do play a role in behavior, but environmental factors are also clearly in play. I attribute my brother's psychopathology to an interplay between his dyslexia genes (again these have been mapped) and the effects it had on his upbringing, into which my poorly educated but loving parents stumbled.
