The 2020 United States census reported that El Centro had a population of 44,322. The population density was 3,742.8 inhabitants per square mile (1,445.1/km2). The racial makeup of El Centro was 26.3% White, 2.0% African American, 1.9% Native American, 1.8% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 38.3% from other races, and 29.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 87.0% of the population.[25]
