Ashli Babbitt Wrongful Death Suit V. Good and Pretti Cases [View all]

The family of Babbitt received a settlement offer of about $5 million. And her death by a Capitol Police officer was deemed justifiable because the officer fired at her in self-defense because she was a member of a violent mob criminally trespassing and attempting to break into a room where members of Congress were sheltering in fear for their lives. Though Babbitt was thought to be unarmed, she was wearing a backpack at the time of her breaching the opening in the door. What if she had explosives in that backpack? So here is a case of an officer using deadly force in real defense of lives whereas the Good and Pretti cases appear to involve the use of deadly force by agents initiating these deadly encounters with little justification for use of force. So even if these Federal agents are never criminally charged for the Good and Pretti homicides, wrongful death civil suits must be filed with the Babbitt case in mind. But the amount of damages may be far in excess of a $5 million settlement. And if these cases go to trial, discovery and testimony will offer much more than dollars in terms of justice and accountability. Does this sound right? Any thoughts?
