I agree with your sentiment, but object to your choice of that particular word---
regardless of how 'popular' or 'edgy' it might seem to use----

we're currently getting an object lesson in how
being described as a "thug" is NOT a good thing!

She just refused to let the 'thugs' win, in this situation,
and refused to be silenced by a 'thug' !!!
