3. Looks like a shakedown

Yesterday

I "joined" a class action lawsuit against a company that had inadvertently released some (who knows what?) personal information about me. About a year later, I was notified in email that I could claim my share of the case proceeds as a gift card. I went to the site, and there it was, my gift card for about $2.50.

Costco, a great company that is known for happy, well-compensated workers, now (to me) appears to have some law outfit shaking them down on a technicality. The two initial nincompoop "plaintiffs" will most likely end up being "joined" by a few million other nincompoops. The case will end up "settled." The law firm will walk away with millions. The plaintiffs will each get less than the cost of a Costco chicken. And Costco will have been put in its place for giving shoppers one of the coolest bargains there is.
