3. I'm glad I never had kids - but I never had the "ticking clock" about it.

While selfishly, I sometimes wish I had kids to take care of me when I get older, I felt a long time ago that I would hate to bring children into this world when I started hearing more and more about kids being kidnapped/abused many years ago. When the school shootings started happening on the regular that made me double-down on that opinion. I remember my niece plaintively asking me “when is the war going to end” when the Iraq war was going on. Although she apparently wants to have kids. Then I got stuck caring for both of my parents who had Alzheimer’s. I know of lots of people whose kids are either not speaking to them or have mental health problems. My BF’s 3 siblings all have at least one kid out of two with serious mental problems. Then my brother for a while who had severe depression. I was the only female kid in the family. If you have any history of mental illness in the family or Alzheimer’s/Dementia, you may want to include that in your decision-making.
