US Shutdown Nears End as House Advances Trump Funding Deal [View all]
The ongoing partial US government shutdown is nearing an end after President Donald Trump pressured conservative hardliners to drop a blockade against a deal he negotiated with Senate Democrats.
The funding package narrowly passed a key procedural hurdle Tuesday with a final House vote expected later in the day. Only one Republican voted against advancing the legislation to the floor.
A group of conservatives had demanded a bill changing election laws that had no chance of passing the Senate be attached to the funding bill, threatening to sink the deal in a chamber where Republicans could afford to lose only one vote.
The president nailed it down, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, an Oklahoma Republican, told reporters. Im glad we are all nails and theres one hammer.

This means the government funding package cleared the key house procedural hurdle, and will shortly be up for a full House vote.
This will be interesting which Democrats, if any vote for this, and also if any house republicans vote against it.
This is far from over, and it still has to go to the Senate.
