(1,595 posts)I had a prostatectomy in April of that year and radiation a year later. My prostate cancer metastisized in spite of those efforts, but I am on medication which has blocked the further spread of the cancer cells. The medication makes me tired a lot, probably because it blocks the production of testosterone (Testosterone encourages the growth of prostate cancer cells.) but obviously almost 12 years later I am still here and posting more than ever on DU.
Prostate cancer has a good recovery record; with you in stage two, you might not even require surgery. Early stage prostate cancer can be treated with radioactive "pills" inserted into the prostate gland. Avoid surgery if you can because when they remove the prostate gland they also have to remove the nerve that controls erections, making you impotent. There are ways to provide you with artificially-produced erections if you so desire, but I found them undesirable. NOTE: If they remove that nerve, you will still be able to have orgasms (different nerve), just not erections ... TMI?
I can't help you with bladder cancer, but I believe it is treatable if it has not spread too far. Hoping you have a good urologist like I have had. Let us know how things progress.
