But that is neither "collective" nor normal.
Trump was not elected by a majority.(49.8).
Such a tiny margin does not signify collective responsibility on the part of the voters.

The only thing normal about American politics is that it swings back and forth between Repubs and Dems: Bush Sr - Clinton - Bush Jr - Obama - Trump 1.0 - Biden - Trump 2.0. After each "change election" or seismic national.event, someone always predicts that "America will never be the same". Today that person is you.

There are likely many reasons our politics are what they are, but they do not add up simply to "stupidity".
