are you referring to your friend or to the Cherokee Nation?

The Cherokee, whose homeland territory was in GA, TN. and NC, are linguistically and culturally related to the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) nations whose homelands are in NY, with some across the border in Ontario, Canada. The Cherokee were never part of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy of 6 nations (originally 5) and are not generally referred to as Haudenisaunee. In fact they were enemies. But since Haudenosaunee means People of the Longhouse, and the Cherokee once did live in longhouses, I guess Haudenosaunee sort of fits in a broad definition of the term.

There are some Seneca and Cayuga people descended from the 6 nations Haudenosaunee Confederacy in NY living in OK today as a result of the federal gov't under Andrew Jackson trying to force them west of the Mississippi, but most stayed in NY and some who went to OK returned. They are the Seneca-Cayuga nation of OK.

Not sure from your post which people you meant when you wrote Haudenosaunee.
