A whole lot of amazing pics from damned near my favorite thing ever. When the first No Kings Rally was announced, a small group of folks in a senior building in my community decided that even though getting downtown to protest wasnt an option, theyd do their own thing. And when the time came, they took themselves downstairs with signs and mobility devices and had their own protest. Last fall, they did it again, only with about 1500 of their friends and neighbors. It was amazing to see sidewalks full from Foster to beyond Berwyn, with folks using mobility devices front and center in a truly organic neighborhood protest. Today, we joined with easily 2000-2500 people who brought their amazing creativity to some truly clever signs.
Getting to spend these last two No Kings Days with the residents of The Breakers has been about the coolest thing Ive ever gotten to do. This year, they partnered with residents groups in a few other buildings in the area to grow their involvement. It was such an amazing morning connecting with neighbors and sharing the story of how a handful of residents in a senior building who wanted a more accessible way to participate than downtown crowds would allow created the most perfect way to express joyful resistance.
This is what democracy looks like. My heart is full. Thank you to the residents of The Breakers for showing us.
seeing a lot of tiny events that prolly arent getting counted.
